Koh Lanta

IS where I be. It is great. Beautful sunsets and discounted rooms due to the lack of tourists due to the tsunamis. This island was hit worse than Krabi and i have some pictures of some busted up bungalows up the beach from us. I guess us being ehre is rerally to help the people get back on there feet. There is this one awsome Thai guy named Dan who set up a makeshift bar after his bar was washed away by the tsunamis. He is so happy and makes amazing Cocktails. Plus we get special deals because, well, I don't know why so I'll just blame the dimple.

I hung out with an elephant today. I fed her bushes. I named her Elly ('El-lay') 2.

6 days till I'll be landing in Vancouver............

Near Krabi,

Ton Sai is the beach I am staying on. It is on a peninsula with 3 other beaches. The beaches were hit by the tsunami so you do see some resorts being heavily rebuilt and the odd bit of ruble from a boat crashed on the shore. You also see some washed up sandals soemtimes which can be somewhat unnerving.

It is a very beautiful place and tI would assume the best place for rock climbing in SE Asia. CLimbers are all over the place. SO Toby and Jen if you wad this, when you go to Thailand go to Railay and Ton Sai beaches to climb. I"d climb but, err, you know, my toe and all....

I"ll try to get some pics uploaded but I dont know when I can, might not be till I hit Bangkok.

Gotta keep it short as the internet is expensive here.

Langkawi - Land of duty free!

Well me and Nat left penang and boated to this island just south of the Thai border. It is called langkawi and it is a duty free island. What does that mean one might wonder? Well my friend, itmeans that a flat, yes 24 beers, cost me 12 dollars canadian - not that I would buy such devilish things, ever. We have this bungalow that opens up right on to the fricken beach! it is so sweet. plus there is a beer fridge inside the hut - not that I fill it with beforementioned devilish stuff, ever. I haven't been able to go swimming yet because my toehas been oozing juices only the flies seem to enjoy. But the flow has stopped considerablyso I will try my luck today. Now on to my story....

So we rentedmotorbikes, because, well, I am so damn cool - and Nat just does what i do. From this point on I will just talk using I, not we or us, because I am the boss. So I rip down the highway to go to this cablecar (gondola) lift that has one of the most vertical climbs EVER (42 degress). I even got my bike up to 110 Km/hr. This kicks ass because I just learned to ride a bike a month ago.

So after we, I mean I get there, you stare at this enormous lift going up into the mountains. This village is beautiful with a pond in the middle and shops surrounding it. For 5 bucks (15 Ringgit) you can jump on the cablecar. It's about a 15 min ride, with a stop at a middle station. The car travels over a kilometer and you end up over 700 meters above sealevel. The view is quite amazing. 360 degree view of the island. At the middle station you can pay 2 ringgit to get your picture with a Python - so i did, and looked like an idiot holding the thing. Ihave many pictures off the cablecars and that day's events. I will post them next time I find a place that can read camera memory cards. So after the ride back down, a quick 2 dollar lunch and a motorbike back home (I hit over 120 km/hr on the way back - don't tell mom). Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Onthe way back 5 monkeys were just chilling roadside (litterally on the road) so I stopped and the posed for me.

I am now here on the internet, taking time away form the sun and san and water, to write to my dear family and friends - not to brag and gloat, but merely to humbly inform everyone of my goingons. I hope you enjoyed it.

Sincerely,
Tyler McNair Stringer

So I go out last night

to the main city on Penang called Georgetown. They have nice clubs and bars there. So me and nat go get some cool East Indian (or just Indian if you're European cuz you killed all yours) food. That day I'm happy cuz my nail that was ripped up due to me falling in the hole in Laos has finally healed. We leave the restaurant to head to this bar that is sorta like flashbacks (for you Kelowna people) but with a smaller dance floor. Well we take this short cut across this tiniy construction site. Lucky Tyler was able to smoke is big toe into some nice re-bar lying on the ground. And the re-bar was nice enough to hit square onto my nail, ripping it up all the way to the cuticle. So I'm standing there with blood puddling in my sandal and I have to hobble over to the 7-11 to get band-aids. I then get to spend the rest of the night moving around people hoping the don't stomp on my toe. This will be how I remember Malaysia.
